Expert Picks: The Honda Classic
The PGA TOUR heads to the East Coast this week, for The Honda Classic at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Last year saw Russell Henley defeat Ryan Palmer, along with fellow Brits Rory McIlroy and Russell Knox in a playoff.
Of the 144 players total, 78 have won a PGA TOUR event, 20 have won a Major, and combined they have 320 Tour wins.
Rory McIlroy plays in his first PGA TOUR event since last year’s Tour Championship. McIlroy has since been playing on the European Tour, finishing no worse than T-2 in all of his last 4 events. Although he’s only paying 7/2, I struggle to see anyone defeating a past champion playing at the top of his game right now.
Keegan Bradley enters this week on the back of his best finish of the year with a T4 finish at the Northern Trust Open. Since 2012 at the Honda Classic, Bradley hasn’t finished outside the top 12, with a T4th back in 2013. He’s currently paying 25/1 for victory this week, decent value for a major champion back on top of his game.
Patrick Reed is having another great PGA TOUR year, having already recorded one victory at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions back in January. Reed finished T-24th at last year’s edition of the Honda Classic. Currently ranked No.16 in the world, Reed is 35/1 to become a champion come Sunday.
Rickie Fowler had a serious career year last year, finishing in the top-5 in all the majors, and recorded a total of 10 top-10 finishes in 26 starts. At the Honda Classic in recent years, Fowler hasn’t finished outside the top-25. Currently ranked No.12 in the world, Reed is 28/1 to become a champion come Sunday.
