The world’s second-most populated country gets its chance to shine this week at the Hero Indian Open, which will welcome home Anirban Lahiri, its first native-born Tour event champion in seven years.

Lahiri won at Kuala Lumpur, riding a third-round 62 to the top of the leaderboard to become just the fourth Indian man to ever win a Tour event. Two of the previous men to do so will be in the field with him this week in Delhi – SSP Chowrasia and Jeev Milkha Singh.

Lahiri will be paired in the most tantalizing trio of the opening two rounds with 51-year-old Miguel Angel Jimenez and Scott Hend.

The Australian Hend is coming off his own first career victory, taking the title at the Thailand True Classic last week.

The 51-year-old Jimenez is off to a fantastic start, with three Top 20 finishes in his first six events of the season, including a tie for seventh at Thailand.

The Delhi Golf Club dates back to days as a municipal course in the 1930s. This is its first year to have the event be co-sanctioned by the European Tour.

The course is a par-71, 6,923-yard challenge.
