Jason Day Wins 4-Way Playoff at Farmers

What looked like the worst shot of Jason Day’s final round at Torrey Pines Sunday turned out to be his best.

Firing out of the rough on towards the 18th green, Day overshot his target and seemed destined for the drink until his ball stopped just short of the hazard line.

Saved from a drop, he parred the hole to force a four-man playoff, which he won on the second hole when J.B. Holmes badly missed his birdieĀ putt, while Day made his from short range.

Day shot a final-round 70, but was money where it counted with birdies on 15 and 16, the second coming from some 46 feet away.

The co-leader after 54 holes, Holmes could have won the tournament in regulation, but pushed a 20-foot putt just left in the 18th.

That left him and Day in a playoff with Scott Stallings, who also shot 9-under over the first 72.

Day and Holmes both birdied the first playoff hole to advance, before Day took the title.

Day has been red-hot this season, finishing fifth at the Hero World Challenge and third at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions prior to this.

It’s Day’s third PGA title win, and second in as many years after taking the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship almost a year ago.
