Rory McIlroy appears to have added a new skill to his already fearsome resume: Making time stand still.

Even though February 2015 is right around the corner, McIlroy made it look like the summer of 2014 again as he fired an 8-under 64 to take a 1-stroke lead through 36 holes of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on Friday.

McIlroy has a bogey-free round and racked up six birdies in eight-hole stretch, including three straight on 16-18.

Scotland’s Marc Warren is a stroke back at 13-under after firing his own 65 on Friday. Warren fired four straight birdies between 13 and 16.

In all, 16 players are within five strokes of the lead heading into the weekend. Day One leader Bernd Wiesberger fell back to a tie for fifth after hitting a second-day 69. Wiesberger still hasn’t shot a bogey at the tournament, but had only three birdies on Friday after stringing together eight on Thursday.
