Waste Management Phoenix Open Preview
Kevin Stadler is the defending champion, but plenty of eyes will be on local favorite Phil Mickelson and all-time great Tiger Woods as the Waste Management Phoenix Open kicks off Thursday at the TPC Scottsdale.
With $6.3 million in prize money and the largest gallery of any tournament in the US, it’s easy to see the hype generated at the par-71, 7,216-yard course.
Mickelson is the only three-time winner, while Woods is back at the tournament for the first time in seven years. Of the 132 players total, 80 have won a PGA championship, 15 have won a Major, and combined they have 385 Tour wins.
Mickelson is part of the most glamorous trio of the day, teeing off on the back nine at 7:57 a.m. along with Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler.
From there on out, there are few uninteresting pairings as the tournament attracts some of the top talent in the world. Here are a few of the most impressive trios to watch on opening day.
8:06 a.m.: Matt Kuchar, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley
11:40 a.m.: Robert Allenby, Brendon de Jonge, Nicholas Thompson
12:07 p.m.: Patrick Reed, Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth
