Dufner Down 20 Pounds for 2015
If you walked by Jason Dufner in the hallway of his hotel this week in La Quinta, California, you might not have recognized him.
A shorter haircut and down 20 pounds, the 2013 PGA Championship winner is sporting a rather different look these days, one indicative of his desire to compete with the best players in the game.
It’s Dufner’s first event of the 2015 season, and first PGA start since withdrawing from the 2014 PGA Championship. He played a few Euro Tour events in December and January to regain his swing and his strength.
Dufner cut out gluten and said his diet is aimed at removing inflammation from his body.
Longtime friend Keegan Bradley used the weight loss to needle his fellow golfer.
“In 2011 and 2012, … he was playing well. He was a lot skinnier,” Bradley said. “He needed to lose the weight. He was very fat.”
Dufner said he has given up fast food completely, as well as peanut butter and chocolate, two favorites.
“I didn’t really have a choice,” he said Wednesday. “If I didn’t do it, I wasn’t going to be able to play golf. So it was pretty simple for me.”
