Allenby Allegedly Kidnapped, Robbed in Honolulu
After missing the cut at the Sony Open Friday night, PGA golfer Robert Allenby was allegedly kidnapped from a Hawaiian wine bar, robbed, beaten up, and dumped 6-1/2 miles away.
The 43-year-old Allenby, a four-time tournament winner, was shown beaten and bloody in a photo obtained by the Golf Channel with a large abrasion over his left eye and another cut on his nose. His left eye is swollen and largely shut.
Despite its position as one of the best tourist destinations in the United States, Honolulu has a fairly high crime rate. Crime statistics website Neighborhood Scout gives it a ranking of just 20 (out of a possible 100) on the crime index in terms of safety as a city.
Allenby has 22 wins as a professional, 13 of those on the PGA Tour of Australasia. All four of his PGA wins came between 2000 and 2001.
