Crowded Field Atop Hyundai Headed to Final Day
Jimmy Walker is after another fast start to the latest golf season, but he’s got plenty of competition at the top of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions entering Monday’s final round.
Walker and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama are tied for the tournament lead at 7-under through 54 holes.
There are seen other players within five strokes of the lead, including American Ryder Cup members Patrick Reed and Bubba Watson.
After bogeying the first hole on Sunday, Matsuyama was close to perfect, racking up eight birdies en route to a 7-under 66. He had two three-birdie streaks between 7-9 and 13-15.
He was one stroke better than Walker’s 67 on the day. Walker, who won three PGA events a year ago, racked up five birdies between No. 4 and No. 10.
Reed and Korea’s Sang-Moon Bae are tied for third at 15-under; followed by Brendon Todd and Russell Henley at 14-under.
Watson, the 2014 Masters champion, is at 12-under along with Scott Stallings and Robert Streb. Watson was on fire early, with three straight birdies between 3 and 5, and finished with a 68.
