Willett Rises to Top at Nedbank
England’s Danny Willett carded a 6-under 66 to rise to the top of the heap at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City, South Africa, on Sunday, defeating countryman Ross Fisher by four strokes.
Willett carded his third straight round of 68 or less, never hitting a bogey to finish 18-under for the tournament. Over 72 holes, he had only three bogeys, and just one in the final 54 holes.
He was able to overcome both Fisher, who fired a 68, and Luke Donald, who led after Days 2 and 3, only to tumble to third with a 1-over 73 on Sunday. Donald struggled with four bogeys on the day.
The three Brits were the only members of the field to finish at least 10 strokes under par. Germany’s Marcel Siem finished fourth at 9-under after firing a 68.
It was Willett’s second Euro Tour title, following his win at the BMW Open in 2012.
