Scott Hend overcomes Que in Hong Kong Open Nailbiter
Aussie Scott Hend has won the 2014 Hong Kong Open after beating Angelo Que in a play-off.
After 72 holes, there was nothing between the two golfers, sitting at the top of the board at -13.
Que forced the playoff with a birdie on the 18th – a short putt after an exceptional approach to a very tricky pin.
It looked like it would be Que’s victory when Hend put his approach shot into the bunker on the 18th, but he successfully scrambled to save par.
Both players took irons off the tee on the playoff hole, and put the ball right down the middle of the fairway.
But from there on in, it was downhill for Que, whose approach was wayward followed by a fluffed chip shot and finishing with taking a bogey. Hend made a solid par that was enough to secure his win.
The victory means a big EUR171848 payoff, plus the right to play on the more lucrative European Tour events in the future.
