Ryan Palmer Opens Lead at Deustche Bank Championship
The key to doing well in this year’s FedEx Cup in 2014 appears to be having only done pretty well during the regular season.
A week after No. 62 Hunter Mahan won the Barclays Championship, No. 30 Ryan Palmer took the early lead at the Deutsche Bank Championship on Friday in Norton, Massachusetts.
Palmer fired an 8-under 63 to open up a two-stroke lead over Keegan Bradley at the TPC Boston. Palmer was just 2-under through 10 holes, then rattled off six birdies on the final eight holes, including four in a row to end the round.
Bradley had most of his success on the front nine, knocking down four birdies in the opening seven holes.
A trio of players are tied for third at 5-under, including Australian Jason Day, who finished second at last week’s Barclays to move into the overall standings Top 10. He’s tied wth Americans Webb Simpson and Cesson Hadley.
Twenty-one-year-old American Jordan Spieth was the early leader, thanks to his eagle on No. 18 that balanced out a double bogeyon No. 10.
Defending champion Henrik Stenson is tied for 26th, 1 stroke under par.
