Brian Harman, Zach Johnson Rise in FedEx Standings
Zach Johnson wasn’t too happy with his second straight second-place finish at the John Deere Classic, but the jump from 17th to 10th in this week’s FedEx Cup Standings helped make up for it.
Brian Harman is even happier. His win at the tournament in Silvis, Illinois, propelled him from 48th to 14th in the standings for the year-end tournament, putting him in position to do some major damage if he can stay hot down the stretch.
With 1,482 points, Johnson is just 27 points out of sixth place in the standings that are the initial indicator of positioning in the year-end series of tournaments that doles out huge prize money.
Jimmy Walker (2,332 points) continues to lead the standings thanks to his three wins and eight top 10 finishes. His lead is 187 points over Masters Champion Bubba Watson.
The top 125 players in the standings qualify for the first Fed Ex tournament – the Barclays – played in late August.
Last year’s champion Henrik Stenson, who has played far more on the European Tour than the PGA this year, is hanging on to a spot int he field, ranked 102nd.
Tiger Woods, who did not play last week, but will play the British Open, is 212th in the standings.
