George Coetzee Takes 2-Shot Lead to Tshawne Final Round
George Coetzee is a member at the Pretoria Country Club in South Africa. He’s also one round away from being a two-time champion.
Coetzee shot a 68 on Saturday to move to 14-under, giving him a two stroke lead over Finland’s Mikko Korhonen and UK’s Sam Horsfield.
Horsfield came flying up the leaderboard on Saturday thanks to a career-best 64. Korhonen looked like he was drifting back to the rest of the pack until he fired off four birdies in his final seven holes to get to 69 on the day.
“Happy with a two-shot lead,” said Coetzee. “I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I’m quite happy with the way I played today. The front nine wasn’t that great, I felt like I was trying to control everything but I felt like I loosened up and played pretty nicely from nine onwards.
“Playing in front of a home crowd is what it’s all about. I hope I can do something special in front of all the guys tomorrow. I shouldn’t actually think of anything tomorrow, just try and play some good golf. It will be hard to take the win out of the picture but I’ll try my best to just go out and play some good golf.”
Coetzee was at even par through eight holes before logging birdies on 9, 10, 12 and 15. He could have extended the lead further but suffered a bogey on No. 18 after birdying it on Days 1 and 2.
Horsfield birdied 1-4 consecutively on Saturday and added another on No. 9. He’s been two different players on the front nine and the back nine this week. He’s 12-under on the front nine through three rounds and even par on the back nine.
