Brendan Grace, Brooks Kopeka Lead BMW SA Open After First Round
A hometown favorite and the defending US Open champion are the co-leaders at the BMW SA Open in Ekurhuleni, South Africa. The 2018 calendar season of the European Tour kicked off on Thursday.
Brendan Grace and Brooks Koepka are tied for the lead at 7-under after one day. Grace dazzled the crowd with three eagles on the day, while Kopeka had one eagle and seven birdies.
It was great,” Koepka said. “I think I played flawless, except for the second shot on the first hole. I hit a poor shot there and saved it with a 12-footer for a bogey. I made eagle on the second hole and kind of kept it going from there.
“Inside 150 yards, I was really good today. I didn’t have too many shot from inside 150, but every one that I had, I was hitting them close. The putter was really hot on the front nine and then I had a bunch of short putts on the back nine which helped a little bit.
The 29-year-old Grace is in pursuit of his ninth European Tour title. A native of South Africa, Grace is trying to join the legendary Ernie Els as the only man to ever win the BMW SA Open three times in a career.
