Dustin Johnson Solidifies Top Spot; Spieth Back to No. 2
The top two golfers at Sunday’s Northern Trust Open are now the top two golfers in the world.
Winner Dustin Johnson tightened his grip on the No. 1 ranking in the latest Official World Golf Rankings while Jordan Spieth returned to No. 2 in the world with his second-place finish, dislodging Hideki Matsuyama from the spot.
Johnson held the top spot for a 28th straight week. If he can hold it for another month, he will tie Vijay Singh for 10th for the most weeks spent at No. 1 (32). Jon Rahm (5th) and Justin Thomas (6th) both climbed to career highs in the rankings this week. Thomas gives the US three men in the top six, four in the top 10 (Rickie Fowler is 10th), and six in the top 13.
American Julian Suri, who won the Made in Denmark last Sunday, jumped from 213th to 109th in the rankings. He was ranked 1,137 th at the end of 2016.
