Aguilar Leads Lyoness Open by Two Strokes
Chile’s Felipe Aguilar fired an opening-round 65 to take a 2-stroke lead after 18 holes at the Lyoness Open on Thursday.
He leads South Africa’s Jaco Van Zyl, Ashley Chesters, and Sweden’s Johan Carlsson by two strokes apiece. Aguilar as on fire early on, birdying five of the first seven holes and reaching 6-under through 10 holes.
The 42-year-old has looked anything but a contender so far in 2017; starting 11 events and missing six cuts. In his five other tournaments, he’s yet to break the top 50. The 65 is Aguilar’s lowest round since 2014 when he put up a 65 in the round of the Laguna National and went on to win the event.
