Jordan Spieth Exorcises Augusta Demons
Jordan Spieth played a round at Augusta National for the first time since falling apart at the 2016 Masters last April, and turned No. 12 from a weakness to a strength.
Spieth was at Augusta to play a round with AT&T Chairman Randall Stephenson and Redpoint Ventures co-founder Randall Stephenson, both club members.
“First time back,” Spieth said of his December round. “I was very nervous when I got on 12 tee.”
Besting the nerves and taking his time, Spieth made a birdie 2 on the hole.
“I probably gave like a big fist pump,” Spieth said. “I was walking around with my hands up, like, ‘Demons gone.'”
Spieth had a 3-stroke lead on the back nine last April before quadruple-bogeying No. 12, losing the lead to Danny Willett. He never recovered and missed the chance to become just the fourth man in history to repeat as champion at The Masters.
