Chawrasia a Hero with Delhi Win
After finishing second four times, SSP Chawrasia finally broke through at the Hero Indian Open on Sunday, using a 1-under 71 on Sunday to win the tournament by two strokes – his third European Tour title.
The victory earned the 37-year-old Chawrasia his playing privilege on the European Tour after he lost it a year ago.
“This is very important for me because I get a full card and most probably I’m playing the Olympics and the World Cup also so it’s very, very important to me,” he said.
He won the tournament with decisive putts on two holes – a 15-footer on No. 13 for birdie and a second birdie on the 18th. He jumped to 20th in the Race to Dubai standings with his 67-67-68-71 – 273, finishing two strokes ahead of Korea’s Jeunghun Wang and India’s Anirban Lahiri.
Wang provided the biggest push, firing a 4-under 68 to compliment his Saturday 66. Wang might have run away with the tournament crown if not for a miserable 2-over 74 on Friday.
