Countdown to the Masters: 23 Days
As of Wednesday, March 16, The Masters, the first Major of the 2016 golf season, is 23 days away. To celebrate the coming of arguably the most gorgeously visual event in all of sports, here’s a countdown to Augusta featuring a champion a day.
Bernhard Langer, the first man to ever be ranked No. 1 in the current system, won his second Masters in eight years, cruising to a 4-stroke victory over American Chip Beck, shooting an 11-under 68-70-69-70 – 277.
For the third year in a row, the eyes of the gallery were on their favorite ever – Jack Nicklaus – who continued to defy logic as he started the tournament with a 5-under 67, making him one five co-leaders after a round.
Langer was a shot off the lead after rounds one and two, then made his move on a Saturday that saw exactly one player – him – shoot less than 70. His 69 catapulted him four strokes ahead of Beck and Dan Forsman, and the lead was never in doubt from there as he fired a final-round 70.
