American golfer Jason Bohn remains in a Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, hospital this week after suffering a major heart attack during the Honda Classic.

“I didn’t realize what was happening,” Bohn said in a radio interview on Monday. “I just never thought at age 42 I’d be having a heart attack to the degree that I had one.”

Experiencing chest pains on Friday that he thought were related to bronchitis and pneumonia, he sought medical attention and soon found himself in an ambulance.

According to Bohn, doctors reported the left anterior descending artery of his heart was 99%. This is perhaps the most dangerous artery to suffer blockage, as it can lead to sudden death.

Even with intervention, doctors say Bohn’s heart suffered damage from the incident, and it is unknown when he will return to the tour.

Bohn was enjoying a very nice season to date before the cardiac episode, having made six cuts in eight events and finishing in the top 10 three times, including runner-up spots at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and the Shriners Hospital for Children Open.
