Storms Make a Mess of SA Open
Heavy rains took center stage again at the BMW SA Open on Saturday, with just three players completing their third round, making for a hectic Sunday finish.
Play will resume in the third round at 7:30 a.m. local time Sunday, with players beginning the fourth round an hour later, weather permitting.
At present, South Africa’s Brandon Stone and the UK’s Daniel Brooks are tied atop the leaderboard at 10-under. Stone has completed 47 holes (of 54 possible), Brooks has completed 45.
Stone, off to a strong start in 2016, is 4-under for the day to move up four spots from the conclusion of the second round. In his 11 holes on Saturday, he recorded five birdies.
Brooks was 1-under on the front nine with two birdies and a bogey. He has been remarkable on the back nine and hopes to do so again Sunday morning. Through his first 45 holes in this tournament, he is even par on the front nine and 10-under on the back nine.
The only player in the top 10 to actually finish all three rounds so far is France’s Gregory Bourdy, who shot a 68 on Saturday to reach 5-under
Day 1 leader Jaco Van Zyl bounced back from his disastrous Round 2 78 by stringing together six birdies to overcome back-to-back birdies on the back nine. He has one hole to go for his third round, but is 4-under through 17.
