Leishman Leapfrogs Stenson at Sun City
Australia’s Marc Leishman recorded the best round of the day, a 6-under 66, to jump over Sweden’s Henrik Stenson and into the lead at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City, South Africa, on Saturday.
Leishman is the only man in the field to have shot under 70 in each of the first three rounds. He could have led by more, but bogeyed No. 11 after eagling the par-5, 547-yard No. 10.
He finished with birdies on 17 and 18 and has most of his damage on the final five-hole stretch of the course, where he is 7-under through 15 holes.
Stenson is now a stroke behind at 13-under after shooting a 70. He looked fit to keep the lead, standing at 4-under through 15 holes, but bogeyed 16 and 18 to slide back to second place.
The closing stretch also had its way with South Africa’s own Jaco Van Zyl on Saturday. He bogeyed 16 and 17 before birdying 18 to finish with an even-par 72, dropping four strokes off the lead at 10-under.
The only other player within five strokes of the lead is American Robert Streb at 9-under, although another South African, Branden Grace, jumped seven spots to a tie for fifth at 7-under by firing a 67.
