Justin Leonard Among Leaders at OHL

Justin Leonard, who hasn’t won a PGA event since 2008, is one of four players tied for the lead at the OHL Classic after a day of play.

Leonard moved from his home in Dallas to Colorado in the off-season, and expects to play the shortest season of his 22-year career in 2016.  Leonard will only play 12 events this year in order to spend more time with his wife and four children.

He looked like a kid himself on the course Thursday, firing three birdies on the front nine and three more on the back to tie for the lead with a 6-under 65.

Twenty-one players did not finish their first rounds because of darkness. The tournament was suspended for 74 minutes due to rain at El Camaleon in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.

Leonard referenced fellow pro Steve Stricker, who cut back his schedule in 2013 to spend more time with his family.

Leonard has played at least 22 events on the PGA Tour every year since 1995.  Last season he missed 14 of 22 cuts and made “only” $219,000 after making nearly $808,000 the previous year.
