Willett Can Take Dubai Lead at Shanghai

With Rory McIlroy opting to skip this week’s leg of the Final Series, Dannny Willett has a great chance to take the overall lead away from the No. 3 player in the world.

Willett, Louis Oosthuizen, and Shane Lowry, ranked second, third, and fourth in the Race to Dubai standings, will comprise the final trio on the course at the BMW Masters at the Lake Malaren Golf Club in Shanghai, China.

The par-72 course stretches 7,594 yards. Marcel Siem is the defending champion. Siem got the invite back to defend his title despite sitting 67th in the current point standings.

Willett trails McIlroy by 74,213 points. If he finishes 28th or better, he will take over the lead heading into the final tournament, the DP World Tour Championship Dubai.

An interesting name to watch outside of the big race is China’s own Haotong Li, all of 20 years old, who has looked mature beyond his years the past two weeks, finishing tied for 26th at the Turkish Airlines Open at 7-under, then tying for seventh last week at the WGC-HSBC Champions with a 15-under 273.

It was the highest finish ever at a PGA-sanctioned event by a Chinese national.
