Fitzpatrick Wire-to-Wire Winner at Brit Masters
His game might not be quite as polished as American wunderkind Jordan Spieth, but 21-year-old Brit Matthew Fitzpatrick did something even the No. 1 player in the world couldn’t do in his rookie season – win an event on the biggest tour of his continent.
Fitzpatrick finished a wire-to-wire win at the British Masters Sunday with a final round 68 to finish 15-under, winning the event by two strokes.
Fitzpatrick was the youngest player in the field – he won’t be 22 until next September 1 – and was extraordinarily humble in victory.
To put his age in perspective, the last time the British Masters was held – 2008 – Fitzpatrick was 14.
