Forty-year-old Soren Kjeldsen tied 21-year-old Matthew Fitzpatrick atop the leaderboard of the British Masters on Friday by firing a 68 to reach 9-under through two rounds.

Fizpatrick shot a 69 after opening with a 64.

Kjeldsen is after his second title of the year and the fifth of his career. He’s played 506 European Tour events; Fitzpatrick just 33.

Kjeldsen is in the hunt for his fourth top 10 finish of the year. He won the Rory McIlroy-hosted Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in July.

Fitzpatrick was not sharp early on, just even par on the first nine holes before rounding into form on the back nine.

“If the win doesn’t come this week but I move up in the World Rankings, that’s good enough for me so if I can just keep moving up slowly that will be great,” Fitzpatrick said.
