Kjeldsen’s 64s Lead KLM Open
In a day full of low scores and near records, Soren Kjeldsen’s consistency gave him the spot atop the KLM Open leaderboard.
Kjeldsen recorded his second straight 64 to drop to 12-under giving him a 1-stroke lead over Australia’s Wade Ormsby and England’s David Horsey.
But the real story Friday was young Matthew Fitzpatrick, who narrowly missed the first 59 in European Tour history, firing a 10-under 60 to jump from 97th to a tie for fifth at 9-under.
Already 4-under at the turn, Fitzpatrick fired five straight birdies between 11 and 15 and added another on 17. A final birdie on 18 would have got him to 59 but he could only manage a par.
