Spieth Misses Cut, Will Fall to No. 2
The first reign of Jordan Spieth as world No. 1 will come to an abrupt end on Monday as the 21-year-old Texan missed the cut at The Barclays, carding a 7-over 74-73.
Spieth has been No. 1 for the last two weeks after breaking a 54-week stretch at the spot by Rory McIlroy, who will regain his spot on Monday.
“I’ve reached that peak already, and I know it’s going to be close enough to where if I just get the job done next week, I’ll be back in that ranking,” Spieth said after Friday’s round. “That ranking, it’s great once you reach it, but it’s not something that I’m going to live or die on each week.”
