Horsey Rides to Lead at Denmark Challenge

England’s David Horsey attacked the course at the Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort in Farso, Denmark, on Thursday to the tune of an 8-under 63 to take a one-stroke lead at the Made in Denmark Challenge.

Just 1-under at the turn, Horsey eagled the 644-yard No. 11, then fired off five straight birdies between holes 13 and 17 to shoot a staggering 28 on the back nine. The 30-year-old Horsey has three previous European Tour victories, the last coming about 13 months ago at the M2M Russian Open.

The hot finish gives him a 1-stroke lead over Wales’ Oliver Farr, who fired a 7-under 64 in spite of three bogeys, thanks to a sprint featuring five birdies and an eagle between holes 3 and 8.

A whopping 67 players are at least one stroke under par, leaving the field extraordinarily wide open with 54 holes to play.

Plenty of local eyes were fixed on Denmark’s own Soren Kjeldsen, currently 21st in the Race to Dubai standings and ranked 72nd in the world. Klejdsen is one of seven players tied for fourth at 5-under, three strokes off the lead.

The very popular Kjeldsen got off to a nearly flawless start, birdying four of his first six holes and five of his first eight, but bogeys on 9 and 13 pushed him back into the pack.

Defending champion Marc Warren will have a long way to go to make it two straight Made in Denmark crowns, suffering a miserable triple-bogey 7 on the par-4 No. 9 and finishing with an even par 71.
