In a sky full of stars, Ireland’s Shane Lowry outshone them all.

The 28-year-old won his first PGA title by firing a final-round 66, pushing past Major winners Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk, and Justin Rose on the final day to win the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Trailing Rose and Furyk by two strokes heading into the final round,  Lowry outshot both men by six strokes, notching four birdies and no bogeys in the final round.

Bubba Watson also shot a 66 to finish second, as Furyk and Rose both fell back within final round 72s.

Furyk, who led after two rounds and was tied for the lead after three, was 1-under through four holes, but bogeyed No. 5 and No. 8. He got back to even par with a birdie on 11, but bogeys on 12 and 18 saw him fall short again at Bridgestone.

After firing a 7-under 63 on Saturday, Rose wasn’t much better, sitting 2 over through 7. He never got back to even par.

World No. 2 Jordan Spieth, who could have taken over as No. 1 with a victory, shot a 66 on Sunday to finish tied for 10th with fellow American Rickie Fowler at 4-under.

It is Spieth’s 14 top 10 finish this year in 21 events. He has finished in the top 10 in the last five events he’s competed in.
