Widegren Takes 1 Stroke Madeira Lead
Sweden’s Pontus Widegren fired his second round of 67 in three days, book-ended around a 66, to drop to 16-under through three rounds, giving him a one-stroke lead through 54 holes at the Madeira Islands Open on Saturday.
An odd front nine saw Widegren hit two bogeys but also two eagles, along with one birdie to sit 3-under at the turn. He added two birdies down the stretch.
Scotland’s Scott Henry and Finland’s Roope Kakko are a stroke back at 15-under, thanks to a 65 and 64, respectively.
Kakko was 5-under at the turn, and still there through 15 holes before birdying the final three of the day.
England’s Sam Walker, who started the day tied for the lead, dropped six spots to a tie for seventh with a 1-over 73. Walker was 1-under through seven before double bogeying No. 8.
