Quicken Loans National Preview

Tiger Woods hosts  the Quicken Loans National tournament this week at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, desperately hoping he’s still relevant on Saturday.

Woods, still slowly recovering from back surgery and a fall from the No. 1 spot out of the top 200, has missed the cut at two of his last three events – both Majors – and has missed the cut in four of his nine total events in 2015.

His 17th-place finish at the Masters is starting to look like an anomaly more than a return to form, as he followed it up by finishing 69th at The PLAYERS Championship and 71st at the Memorial, featuring his career-worst round of 85.

Woods is a two-time former winner of the Quicken Loans National, taking it in 2009 and 2012, both times at Washington D.C.’s Congressional Country Club. This is the first time the event is being played at Trent Jones.

Woods tees off Thursday along with Bill Haas and Nick Watney. Watney and Woods share the record for this tournament at 13-under.

Defending champion Justin Rose is also on tap, playing with Jimmy Walker and David Lingmerth.  All three men already have titles to their names this season: Rose in New Orleans, Lingmerth at the Memorial, and Walker in both Hawaii and San Antonio.

Playing with a massively heavy heart will be Billy Hurley III, who announced Tuesday that his father Willard Hurley has been missing since July 19. Hurley has an early start – 7:37 a.m. Thursday along with Aaron Baddeley and Andres Gonzales.
