Madeira Islands Open Replay Set for Thursday
In the rarest of circumstances, the European Tour returns to the Madeira Islands in Portugal this week for the second time this season, as the tournament is the first in Tour history to be replayed.
A year after bad weather saw the tournament last just two rounds, only one was played this March as wind and rain again rocked the tiny archipelago set off the northwest coast of Africa that is home to 267,000 people.
The weather problems have been borderline bizarre, considering Funchal, the capital city, only averages 2.37 inches of rain for the entire month of March each year.
Still, tournament directors were wise to switch it to July, when Funchal gets less than 1 inch of rain on average.
