Zach Johnson Rises to No. 12 Post-Open Win
The Open Championship winner Zach Johnson rose from 25th to 12th in the latest Official World Golf Rankings following his triumph on Sunday at St. Andrews.
Runners-up Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman did nicely as well, with the South African jumping four sports from 17th to 13th and the Australian soaring 34 places from 61st to 27th.
There was only one climber inside the top 10 – Justin Rose, who finished tied for sixth, moved up from No. 8 to No. 5.
With three of the four Majors now in the books for 2015, only two players in the Top 10 – No. 1 Rory McIlroy and No. 7 Jim Furyk – are in the same spot they ended 2014 in.
With McIlroy unable to defend his title, No. 2 Jordan Spieth closed the distance between the two, and is less than a point behind the Northern Irishman (12.6022 – 11.6633).
American Scott Piercy, who won the Barbasol Championship, jumped from 112th to 71st this week, and has risen 183 spots since January. Padraig Harrington, who hung around until late on Sunday, is back in the top 100 at No. 95 after starting the year ranked 265th.
Tiger Woods, who missed the cut, fell another 17 spots to No. 258.
