Danny Lee Wins Playoff at Greenbrier
Danny Lee, the 24-year-old native of South Korea who calls New Zealand home, won a wild four-man playoff to claim the Greenbrier Classic, his first title on the PGA Tour.
Paired with David Hearn, Kevin Kisner, and Robert Streb in the extra session, birdying the first playoff hole along with Hearn, who then bogeyed the second hole.
Lee birdied the final hole for par and the title.
“All I can say is wow,” Lee said. “I finally did it.”
Lee earned just over $1.2 million. He had missed the cut in two of his last three events, including the US Open. He shot a 67 in regulation, with only one bogey surrounded by a couple of birdies on the front nine, and two more birdies on the back nine.
Streb and Kisner both raced down the stretch to reach the playoff, with Streb shooting a 65 and Kisner a 64.
Russell Henley nearly made it a five-man playoff with a closing round 63 to finish at 12-under. Henley notched nine birdies on the day.
Travelers Champion Bubba Watson finished tied for 13th at 10-under. Watson had remarkable consistency in the tournament, shooting 67-68-68-67 – 270.
Tiger Woods shot a closing-round 67 to finish tied for 32nd. Woods played a bogey-free round.
