South Africa’s Jaco Van Zyl fired a 7-under 64, the best score of the tournament to date, to open up a 2-stroke lead after 54 holes at the Alstom Open de France in Paris on Saturday.

It was a far cry from Van Zyl’s 71 on Friday, which ended with a bogey and a double bogey on 17 and 18. He had no bogeys of any sort on Saturday and stroked seven birdies.

Now at 10-under, Van Zyl has a two-stroke lead over Maximillian Kieffer, who was nearly as good with a 65 to reach 8-under.

The three co-leaders from Day Two all took a dive. Martin Kaymer and Victor Dubuisson each shot 69s to drop back to a tie for fourth at 6-under. Rafa Cabrera-Bello didn’t stop there, sliding all the way to a tie for 14th with a 1-over 72 he double bogeyed No. 8 and had two more bogeys int he last four holes to lose any chance of staying in the top 10.
